On the Localization Transition of Random Copolymers near Selective Interfaces

چکیده

In this note we consider the (de)localization transition for random directed (1 + 1)–dimensional copolymers in the proximity of an interface separating selective solvents. We derive a rigorous lower bound on the free energy. This yields a substantial improvement on the bounds from below on the critical line that were known so far. Our result implies that the critical curve does not lie below the critical curve set forth by Monthus [11] on the base of a renormalization group analysis. We discuss this result in the light of the (rigorous and non rigorous) approaches present in the literature and, by making an analogy with a particular asymptotics of a disordered wetting model, we propose a simplified framework in which the question of identifying the critical curve, as well as understanding the nature of the transition, may be approached.

A numerical approach to copolymers at selective interfaces

We consider a model of a random copolymer at a selective interface which undergoes a localization/delocalization transition. In spite of the several rigorous results available for this model, the theoretical characterization of the phase transition has remained elusive and there is still no agreement about several important issues, for example the behavior of the polymer near the phase transiti...

Evidence of random copolymer adsorption at fluctuating selective interfaces from Monte-Carlo simulation studies.

We perform Monte-Carlo simulations of a binary, strongly separated mixture of A- and B-type homopolymers with some amount of random AB copolymers added. The interface is analyzed and the interface tension is calculated using the model of capillary waves. We can clearly demonstrate that random copolymers are localized at real, fluctuating interfaces between incompatible polymer species and micel...

Thermal-oxidative Degradation of PGA, PLLA, and Random Binary PLLA-PGA Copolymers

Dimerization process is essential for producing copolymers. The features of dimerization process like thermal-oxidative degradation should be well known to reach maximum efficiency and a superior reactor design. Also, the degradation mechanism of biodegradable polymers is important during sterilization processes. Thermal-oxidative degradation of PGA, PLLA, and their binary copolymers was invest...

Smoothing Effect of Quenched Disorder on Polymer Depinning Transitions Giambattista Giacomin and Fabio Lucio Toninelli

We consider general disordered models of pinning of directed polymers on a defect line. This class contains in particular the (1 + 1)–dimensional interface wetting model, the disordered Poland–Scheraga model of DNA denaturation and other (1 + d)– dimensional polymers in interaction with flat interfaces. We consider also the case of copolymers with adsorption at a selective interface. Under quit...
